More Than a Box. A Fresh Start.
The Recovery Box Program is the signature program Engine of Hope developed for South Carolina. Each approved Recovery Box is designed to provide comfort, dignity, and essential items to individuals and families recovering from burn injuries and qualifying fire-related emergencies.
Each box is personalized based on the recipient's age, household size, circumstances, and immediate recovery needs. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach because every recovery journey is different.
Approved Recovery Boxes are provided at no cost to the recipient, made possible by donors, sponsors, and community partners.
Box categories
- Baby (ages 0–3)
- Child (ages 4–12)
- Teen (ages 13–17)
- Adult (ages 18+)
- Family (household support)
- Burn Survivor (additional specialized support)
What to expect
Submitting a request does not guarantee a Recovery Box. Every request is reviewed for eligibility and verified need, and approval depends on funding, inventory, volunteer capacity, and service area.
Listed contents are examples only. Actual items vary based on donations, availability, safety requirements, and the recipient's identified needs.
Medical or specialized recovery items are included only when properly verified and approved based on medical guidance.
Approved boxes may be delivered locally or shipped to a trusted address depending on location, available inventory, volunteer capacity, and recipient needs.
From request to recovery in four steps.
Request
A survivor, family member, hospital, burn center, fire department, social worker, or approved partner submits a request or referral.
Review
Engine of Hope reviews the request and identifies the recipient's age, household size, clothing sizes, incident details, and immediate needs.
Build
Volunteers carefully assemble a personalized Recovery Box using donated and purchased supplies.
Deliver
Boxes are distributed through approved partners, locally delivered when available, or shipped directly to the recipient.
